Facilitation Approach Used Included |
| Conflict resolution for Boards, Teams and Groups | Building a strong context of agreements on process, ground rules, and agenda, how decisions are to be made, recording everyone's ideas, enforcing (with the group's support) the ground rules agreed upon, facilitating getting and maintaining focus, encouraging breaks, building a foundation of agreements on which more agreements can be built, etc. |
| Partnership issues | Often this entails creating an environment in which it becomes possible to have quite direct conversations. I assist by recording key thoughts, slowing the conversation down when needed to ensure that all parties feel heard, suggesting specific processes or ground rules that support the resolution of the conflict, remind parties why resolution of the conflict is important (easy to forget in the midst of frustration and anger), etc. |
| Initial Founding Board Meetings | Use of the large graphic wall charts mentioned above has turned out to be an extremely powerful tool. My knowledge of the structure and processes for successful organizations also helps the group address the needed questions early on. My ability to hold a complex collection of ideas without forcing them to go together can help the group reach conclusions that have broad support. |
| Our Basic Approach | I use the tools and techniques of facilitation - facilitator, group memory, joint agreement on agenda and on ground rules and overall process, and to the extent desirable, consensus decision making. |
| Powerful Additional Capabilities | Graphics with Groups - the use of large butcher paper to create a large graphic chart that integrates ideas and thoughts of the group as the meeting progresses. (Here I am often assisted by a Graphic Recorder.) Technography - support of the facilitation process using for group memory a computer with large group data projector display. (Here I am often assisted by a Technographer.) |
