Brief Essence |
Working together workshops provide an opportunity for members to construct understandings and build collegial relationships. Whereas council meetings with an audience and the pressures of immediate decisions don’t allow dialog on HOW we work together, these workshops can focus on elements needed for members of city councils to work together effectively. | Members of the group want to work together and at the same time not lose
their their different perspectives, interests, and values. Differences among members of the group are valued and the group builds competencies needed to take advantage of them. Understandings and Agreements are key to group collaboration. |
| Examples | Yearly retreats that develop understandings about how the Council will work together. Conflict resolution retreats. Building a set of agreements among council members on key areas of Council work. |
Working with the top managers in a city's Community Development Department to create SmartGroups® that ensure effective flows and interaction across divisional lines. Introducing Aspects of SmartGroups® during working sessions of a Website redesign working group for immediate use. |
